HEARTBREAK - LIVE

The latest additions to the Lex roster played an undercover gig at the press launch to the Jones Hotel in London. It was an extremely sexy experience and one that you must and will all be a part of in the near future. Check their MySpace to hear why everyone is going mad for their new Metalo sound (that's Italo Disco infused with the dark energy of metal bands like Black Sabbath if you didn't know already)

Great building, Amazing building infact.... But really uniquely terrible art. Perhaps as bad as the Takeshi Murakami galllery atrocity at the Brooklyn Museum. Worth visiting for the amazing view from the roof and heavyweight cocktails at the bar.

Check this odd Park Slope couple out... House on the left is vegan hippy central, gay rainbow flags and 'impeach George Bush' banners.

House on the right is all picket fence and American Flags / 'Support our boys in the gulf'. I hope they're secretly shagging.

BARCADE - Boozy Tetris Tournament of Doom

There's a great bar in Williamsburg where you can play old vintage arcade machines in mint condition for 25cents a pop while you get boozed up on any of about 40 different beers. Asteroids still looks amazing today but there's nothing like the satisfaction of beating your brainiac neuroscientist girlfriend at Tetris. Hahah IN YOUR FACE! check it out HERE

Autechre at Williamsburg Music Hall

Legendary Sheffield based electronica due Autechre played a sonically challenging live set, leaving the predominantly geeky and male crowd very happy indeed. The room was pitch black except for the odd camera flash - perfect. Skam / Gescom DJ Rob Hall played a great set before the main act but all the crunchy electronics were too much for this Lex Records correspondent who had to leave early due to the strength of the bowel-busting sub-bass bins.

Best Record Shop in NYC / THE WORLD

Behold! Probably the worlds finest 2nd hand record store...

There's a mythical junk shop in Greenpoint NYC called 'The Thing'. If you go to the back of the store, past all the crap furniture, broken Hi-Fi equpment and junk, there's a goldmine of vinyl! Rooms and corridors packed floor to ceiling with hundreds and thousands of 12"s and LPs, in no particular order or genre, you just have to get digging in the crates! This Japanese gentleman was particularly organized and had come over from Tokyo especially to spend 7 days getting dusty and finding rare tracks to sell on Ebay. Now he's probably back home deciding which solid gold tie to wear with his diamond encrusted suit. I found half a dozen gems in 15 minutes. GOLDRUSH ALERT!

I LIKE THE POPE.... etc

The Pope aka Big Poppa dropped in to NYC to see us for a weekend break. We did some trainer shopping, checked out some cool bars and restaurants. His entourage were a bit much but we had some laughs. Ended up at some dive kareoke bar in Chinatown doing all the ususal hits, Madonna etc. I kinda fucked it when I suggested we do a track by Black Sabbath but the tequilas were flowing and we spent the rest of the night getting his Vatican Papal Choir to do the intro to Danger Mouse & Jemini's 'Ghetto Pop Life' over and over again, while we tried to skin up... another classic Lex NYC weekend.

Lex Records NYC HQ has a small and awesome dog running around it for most of the day, sometimes it takes unecessary wees and poos but mostly he's pretty chill. We're sure DMX would approve but he hasn't dropped in for tea recently.

Chinatown's Dustbins of Frogs

New York's Chinatown is a truly surreal place... A fish shop was doing a side-line in frogs, selling them from a massive open-topped dustbin with just a little bit of water. There were A LOT of frogs and they'd all be trying to make a leap for it. As soon as the shopkeeper had put one back in, another would pop straight out. This went on for at least 20 mins, That was as long as I could watch before my stomach muscles started hurting from laughing.

Neon Neon (the new band from Super Furry's front-man and Gruff Rhys and Boom Bip) have been visiting LA to make a video for their forthcoming single'I Lust U'. It's a duet between Gruff and fellow Welsh singer Cate Le Bon (no relation :-). It's directed by Klaus Thymann who also took the amazing photos of the band you'll be seeing in magazines worldwide very soon... the video has something to do with jellyfish but you'll have to wait a couple of weeks to find out more.
